I've heard that the infantry (except Kroot & Ethereals*) are covered, and there are some conversion kits that let you turn Skyrays into Hammerheads. Everything else is available from FW.

And I think there's a Tau army or two on eBay right now if you fancy spending funny money.

On the list itself, I'm not a fan of the Skyray formation (It's overpriced). I'd probably look to dropping it, dropping the Hammerhead upgrade from the Fire Warriors, and taking a Hammerhead Formation with an attached Skyray instead?

What do you guys think I know a lot of AA which might be first to go etc. but just first draft

Personally I'd drop the AX-1-0s. To be quite blunt they're not very good. You won't get within 45 cms of anything worth TKing, and I'd definately chase them with AA to take out 375 pts worth of TK bomber. I'd probably even risk the flak to try and slip a thunderbolt flights in

There's definately better points to be spent elsewhere.

Personally I'd look towards dropping the HH upgrade the skyray fm and the AX-1-0s and look to pick up some pathfinders, some Krute and a HH fm with a skyray. You could proably even drop the Etheral and have the Crisis fm be your BTS.

Personally I think the Skyray is the dogs danglies. It gives a unit more missiles for turns when you fire guided missiles at distant marker-lit targets and it also provides the Fire warriors with a markerlight, should you they need "Danger close" support from other units or go in for the close range FW killing blow (As well as adding their own firepower to said "Killing blow"). I would advise against dropping the SRs unless you really can't avoid it.

Personally I'd drop the AX-1-0s.

I'd disagree. Most AA in the game is 45cm or shorter, so the AX-1-0's should generally only be targeted by Interceptions, and AA that moves during the turn after the AX-1-0 has made its attack run.

- Interceptions can be shut down by parking your AX-1-0's under the Skyray umbrella.

- AA that moves during the turn can be shut down by activating the AX-1-0 squadron nearer to the end of the turn if possible (as Tau are a high activation army this tends to be after your opponent has finished activating).

Personally I think the Skyray is the dogs danglies.

Skyray Upgrades are brilliant, a core part of the army's playstyle.

Skyray formations are about 50pts overpriced, perhaps even 75pts. This is because their Markerlights don't get used due to the different role nessesarily played by an independent Skyray formation as compared to a Skyray Upgrade, and because unlike the Upgrade they are vulnerable to breaking (small formation, modest armour value).

Eldar are about all that'd try that (Interceptors with good armour, a moderate squadron size, and a good enough initiative to go on CAP) I reckon, and even then are liable to lose several planes (you should be parking your AX-1-0's under the umberella of at least 3 Skyrays).

Yes, so they outrange any 45cm AA units that are added to larger formations (as they can choose their angle of approach). Only armies with 60cm+ AA weapons can reliably get shots off at them (but won't really, because the AX-1-0's will only be sent into an AA bubble if the Tau player is desperate, generally).

If they can reliably kill a Warhound sized unit a turn (and they can do that with ease) then you only need 2 turns of activations to make their points back.

IG, Marines, Chaos Marines, Orks, all suffer badly to AX-1-0's because they lack the right tools to counter them with ease, and because they tend to take WE's in the right weight range for the AX-1-0's to attack.

Eldar are their nemesis, but then Tau have certain tools that work well on the ground against Eldar like using Pirahna formations on overwatch, able to interrupt Eldar rolling assaults without needing LOS, for example.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the AX-1-0s I think. I see them as being a bit of a gimmick but not at all reliable.

Decent sized flights of fighta bombers will shred AX-1-0s and I'd risk a 150 pt flight of thunderbolts through 4x AA5+ shots (2x skyrays) for a crack at them. If you're using the AX-1-0s early in the turn they're vulnerable to a flak rush (Which I'd totally consider doing). You're also asuming that the enemy flak is in the same unit as/behing the target for he AX-1-0s. Trying to target a shadowsword behind a couple of Hydras or a Void spinner whilct trying to run the Gauntlet of Eldar AA is not at all easy.

Aside from all that, it's 375pts that can't capture or contsest objectives.

I agree with the Pirrahna/ markerlight comments. I would always advise taking more of these types of units over AX-1-0s in a 3000pt list. Even at 4000pts I'd rather go down the Manta and spaceship route for my TK.
