Just feeling a little miffed and dejected.

EUK do a lot of work organising events, testing and publishing lists in the name of improving Epic gaming in the UK, sadly I feel a lot of that goes to waste due to a decreasing spread of increasingly obscure locations!

The NWGC looks like a great venue, and the Stockade looks to be one of the most interesting events this year (the other contender being BotCh!), but take up has been low, especially by non locals. It seems soon to be booking this venue?

Any chance of an MK tournament? FSA? I know it's usually in Mans to keep it cheap for new players but the saving is largely lost through travel expenses. I think we've attracted all the new players in the Mans area we can expect! The Winter Warmer attracted several new players simply due to the new location.

As a long time regular paying customer from the South I feel I am in a better position than some to make this point.

Regarding ITB 11 then if we didn't book it now the nWGC would be full. Manchester area has probably the largest growing Epic group in the UK - and are supportive of tournaments. SS has been low on numbers IMO due to proximity to other events.

If Gavin and any new organisers can get something organised which gives people notice+ doesn't clash with any other events then I'm sure it will be a success. But TBH we are moving ITB for 2 reasons - to make the calendar less east midlands dominated and becuase thats where the players are who will come.

If you look at London who has been to that and then come to other events or has come to London but wouldn't have come to the same event in Notts? First couple of years perhaps 2 players who wouldn't have come to Notts and nobody who has become a regular. If London players don't support existing events (and EUK emnity cannot be blamed as it has been consistent with non-EUK days and pre-EUK) then what incentive if there is to move one of our 3 events down there?

Hopefully Gavin, Alan and yourself can get events organises and we can have 11+ events with 20+ players in London, Walton, Stockport, Manchester, Mansfield +Nottingham.

NWGC is walking distance from Stockport train station, which is on the west coast main line and nearly every train from London to Manchester will stop there!

Personally I hate travelling into London. Driving takes me about the same time as to Nottingham and trains/tubes cost about the same as a return to Manchester.

It's all about location. As the majority of the members live North, that's were our events get run.

There is a chance of an MK event, assuming I can get organised to run it, as I won't be expecting Epic-UK to help me run it, I'll do it myself.

So if you want an event in London, get together with the other 5 or 6 regular players down there and run it. Constantly asking others to run things in your back garden just isn't going to happen.

I have not suggested London as a good location. I don't think London would be that great, for a large part due to the points Steve and Meph raise. TBH Surrey isn't ideal either as players north of London would either have to go around or through the city. Again I'll say MK, Reading would also be a good location for a "Southern" event IMO.

They are all the southern people I'm aware of at least! The furthest South EUK operate is Mansfield :-(

If the attitude of EUK is, "if Southerners want a tournament they can organise one" then many players may feel their loyalty to the organisation has been misplaced.

So if you want an event in London, get together with the other 5 or 6 regular players down there and run it. Constantly asking others to run things in your back garden just isn't going to happen.

There is a travel lodge or similar (the Banford Arms) literally round the corner, and although Stockport is not the most glamourous place in the world you're about 10 minutes from central manchester on the train and about 20-30 from geeksbury on the Bus should you want some R&R afterwards.

It was never our intention to hold loads of events all over the country but to stick with our 3 - which we are now spreading more geographically, and then hope that through providing balanced lists, and also the championship, more events would spring up like epics inclusion in botc, london and ss.

I do think London(ish) could host some more Epic tournaments, especially with the upsurge in interest at the central london club lately (5-6 newbies in the last month). Happy to use my car to truck any required gear to a tournament location, etc..

I'll talk about MK. I've been looking around for over a year and it's only now that I'm at a club in Cranfield that there is a chance that I can find a venue that will be financially viable. And then it will be a max of 12 players, as that's the number of boards available.

Being a small player base, with an even smaller tournament population the South, by its nature, has priced itself out of our reach, unless you are all prepared to pay around £50 for tournament entry alone. I know I wouldn't as I know I can do it much more cost effectively further North.

Then we come to regular players. I'm down to basically 1, and to be honest we don't play that much Epic anymore. It's much more likely we will play Hordes or Malifaux as that's the in game at our club. I accept that this is down to me as much as anything else as I've lost the urge to convert gamers to Epic, I now just want to get a game of something once a week. I'm even giving 8th ed fantasy a go!

As to help I'm sure Epic-uk will do what we can, but we won't be able to do the tournament entry and payment acceptance stuff as we just don't live near the potential venues. Doing all this stuff remotely is, in my opinion, just asking for trouble.

Also thanks to flame on for hosting this debate, at least all the non-uk members of TC have been spared a thread they really would have no interest in.

Incidently, the NWGC is not the most glamorous of locations and is a biit rough around the edges but easilly fulfills our needs, is cheap and welcoming. Overnight accomodation is also cheap is not far from a bustling and vibrant city. It's also really easy to get to. I regulary travel to Stockport from London, there's trains every day, they take about 2- 2.5 hrs with no changes in a comfortable Virgin train and costs around £60-£70 for a return off-peak. The GC is a 15 min walk from the train station.

Even though it's further north than Mansfield it is much easier to get to and the location is so much better for R&R.

I wouldn't mind travelling down to Reading or MK for a tourney (If I can ever get to one!) though if one was to be organised. London would be one I'd have to think about though due to travel ball-ache and accomodation/beer cost.
