Boredom means im playing about with lists! Like the idea of Dark Angels, though im not sure how effective they will be. Heres my first list (i should note, i will be sticking with Codex Marines whilst im trying to get t grips with the game!):-
Incompertus, 3000 POINTS Dark Angels (170711) ==================================================
LAND RAIDER [575] 4 Land Raiders, 2 Hunters, Vindicators, Chaplain
I think you're a bit light on activations and have a few bloated units that you won't get much use out of - Land raiders and vindicators for e.g. You're also as well not mixing the role of the Predators to make them more efficient. I'm a fan of destructors because they are fast and better at supporting/initiating engagements and are cheaper. That being said, Annihalators do fill a gap that the marines are quite lacking in - anti tank firepower but they are priced appropriately.
For my money I'd be taking more tacticals, as they're a good resilient unit that are tough to shift and can soak up the increased firepower that your ground pounding marines are likely to have to face over air drop marines.
My DA list would probably look something like this:
Stomp Angels, 3000 POINTS Dark Angels (170711) ==================================================
TACTICAL [550] 6 Tactial units plus Transport, 2 Hunters, Supreme Commander, Razorback LAS
SCOUT [175] 4 Scouts plus Transport, Razorback LAS
SCOUT [175] 4 Scouts plus Transport, Razorback LAS
I've gone quite character heavy with this because I only have 1 air drop and I felt that it should really hit hard when it does. I had 175 pts left over after taking what I thought the list needed, so could have got an extra scout unit but felt like the 3 x Chaplains and Tac Razorback would be a better use of points (Taking a RB gives you slightly more AT firepower and an extra transport slot that you don't need (If a rhino dies for e.g.) as well as increasing the breaking point of the unit by 2 BMs.
Alternatively I could have used the 175 pts to turn the predators into another tactical unit with razorback and 2 x hunters and just added 1 chaplain to the assault marines, which probably would have been better but I went for variation (A bit of style over substance).
With that being topped up to 4000 pts with:
LANDING CRAFT [350] 1 Landing Craft
DEATHWING [650] 4 Dethwing Terminator units, 4 Land Raider
Which is basically just a silly big BTS that combines well with the rest of the army.

Cheers Stomp! I thought it would be a tad light on activations, i guess my big worry is dealing with Titans/war engines! I do like the list youve posted too, so may give it a go in the near future!
Ive got to admit, painting Epic models is painstaking!!!! I wish they came fully pre painted! Heres what ive been working on this morning:-

The red still needs a second coat but looks ok

Needs the red painting. Hoping to get this done today watching the footy

Only stuck the first coat of bleached bone on them, one more coat, then ill coat them in devlan mud, before highlighting.

I've spent all afternoon painting 5 x speeders and a SC. When you're done and look up from the table I can't help but think: "Is that it?". I do find it quite rewarding though. I'll try and post some more pics too.
They're starting to come together quite nicely though Andy.

It definately is rewarding, simply as i do not paint! But doing it whilst the footy was on definately made it interesting! Hopefully by the end of tomorrow ill have my 2 assault units, termies and thunderhawk painted!

Aye. AS long as you're neat and put a bit of effort into the base you can get a lot painted and looking quite good. Drybrush with a bit of detailing is your friend.

I got the transports painted for both the scouts and tacticals, plus the weaponry too. On the Rhino's, i have actually picked out some of the detail, but it doesnt show up to great in the pics. Still undecided if i should try and pick out the bolters on the tac marine stands and the scouts still need their faces & hair painting. The whirlwind will represent the hunters in the list. Ive re-based the bikes and given them a coating of DA green and the first dry brush too. Ill pick out some details tomorrow (wheels/exhaust pipes). Im hoping though, with a bit of flock stuck on the bases, ill get away with them for ITB!
Ive included a full army shot, the only thing missing is the Predators. Tomorrows job is buying some undercoat, flock and a couple more paints (anyone know what time NWGC is open tomorrow?) and undercoating everything that remains. Im hoping to finish off the two whirlwinds, the terminators and the scouts. I also need to decide on a colour scheme for my titans (will follow through to my Titan Legion army).

Nice. I think you've cracked painting Epic models.
A nice light base will set those off nicely (I'm using a deserty brown scheme for my Templars). Once you get more comfortable with painting 6 mm/ have the time you can go back and add a really light dry-brush or some edging to really make them stand out nicely on the table.
6mm is soooo much easier than painting 28 mm. I think back to having to paint 20 x Catachans/Kroot and multiple devilfish and Hammerheads for my 40K GT army and shudder!
I managed to paint a squadron of speeders and a landing craft today and am currently dry-brushing a space ship wheras 2 Catachans would have been an all day job previously.

Everything is now undercoated! Im starting to think the deadline of ITB is doable! Ive put the first layer on the speeders and started painting the warhounds too. The termies just require a quick highlight and the bolters painting then they are good to go! Sorry for the constant pics......its a way of keeping myself motivated!

Finally got decent internet access which is not my phone! Looking to finalise my list for ITB.
I cant decide whether to keep the bikes in the list, swap them for another unit of speeders or, drop them, stick a chaplain on one of the assault marine units and take a second scout unit plus transports.
What would you more experienced Epic peeps do?

Been a bit bored at home today, so in between painting or trying to paint i decided to work out a list of everything i can field. Ive only included one of each type of titan rather than the 3 Reavers/2 Warlords i have, but i was quite impressed with it all. Im sure, once i pick up some more speeders and start adding in upgrades & more thunderbolts ill be able to field 10k, not that i ever will do Pictures to follow shortly!
Haha! You have been bitten by the bug. I've done this whilst bored with my Eldar. It is satisfying.
4K of 4 chapters is also really rather nice (especially since it's 1 Championship point every time you attend a tournament with a different varient list)!
