Preface-
Alright, this is long, long overdue. There hasn't been much activity in terms of bringing new stuff to the table in how beasts of chaos armies play. I know what many of our lazier veteran board members are thinking to themselves. "The army has been out for 5 years, theres nothing left to say"...."we lost half our units and magic items so there's even LESS to talk about"..."We don't have counters to anything out there, so theres not much we can tell people".
I for one am tired of this talk. Now, its all true I admit. Our army's rules are ancient, from the middle of the last edition. We have indeed lost half our units (admittedly many of those were never taken even in soft or fluffy lists), and we have definitely lost almost all of our good magic items, and many essential ones (staff of change, armor of damnation). And yes, unfortunately our army was never designed with the idea of facing 4+ terror causers or dealing with dragons/greater daemons/steam tanks/treemen outside power-gamer settings. That is no reason to give up though and just sit idly by waiting for GW to give us a new book. So I've devised several different ways BoC can still not only win, but demolish their foes.

Strategy One: Loaded dice
For those who don't know, loaded dice essentially are dice that will always roll certain numbers by making some sides heavier than others. This can be done in a variety of ways. One way is to ever so slightly melt the dice in a micro-wave, not noticeable but still workable. The more common and easier way though is to just buy some.
Our army relies on luck to stand a chance. You can't afford to be fluffing rolls or failing psych tests, and loaded dice fix this problem wonderfully. If you're not getting screwed over by bad luck, you can concentrate on playing well, confident that your ability to out play an incompetent opponent will not be made irrelevent by failing a terror,panic, fear or unruly check. It also means you can concentrate your energies on turning the dice gods against your opponent and stifling his ability to roll well and thus compensate for inferior playing skill with his more powerful army. Which brings us to...
Strategy Two: Praying to the dice gods
I know what you're saying, "but Daggoth, the dice gods don't exist"!. Well, I'll start off by saying you must ignore BLK's crazy talk about some omnipresent, all-loving and all-powerful god of the heavens, and begin listening to my crazy talk about some omnipresent, trivial and idiotic god of plastic cubes...because the real deity is the one who affects dice rolls.
Just ask any veteran player and he'll have dozens of stories of such miracles as a wizard dying by rolling double 1s to cast a 2 dice spell followed by double 1s on the miscast table, or having an entire army of dwarfs panic off the table on LD10, or a dark elf dragon lord fluffing all of its attacks against a unit of handgunners despite hatred. The dice gods are powerful, but you can appease them.
The best way to go about this is sacrifice. You probably have tons of old models lying around you don't use anymore. Maybe you've gotten bored of them. Maybe you've moved on to a different army or list. Maybe your opponents spout off some nonsense about not caring how much you spent on those chaos knights, they're in a different army now. It doesn't matter why.
So rather than have them sitting on a shelf, unused, put them to good use. Smashing them in front of your dice, or burning them at an impromptu alter or pyre either right before the game or in the presence of your dice (or in the presence of your opponent's dice if you want to curse them) while saying the right incantations will ensure luck is on your side.
Some people might be thinking right now, "but Daggoth, I like those models! I spent time painting them in addition to the money I spent...isn't there a way to make them more useful??". Well, luckily there is...
Strategy 3: Refusing to accept reality
Now don't worry, I'm not talking about anything extreme. In fact, I advise you to continue blocking out the thought of how you've invested heaps of money into tiny pieces of plastic with no real value outside of a geeky game. What I'm talking about is hordes of chaos, that old book that seemingly has no value. First off, it must have some value, because you may still stumble across one in a store isle once or twice. Its not like store owners would be selling the HoC book knowing full well you shouldn't be buying it, right? Of course not!
While some people may say you can only use the handful of units inside the beasts of chaos book, you have to remain strong. Just keep trying to get them to play you and your chosen knights, furies, and ability to get rank bonuses with herds against lone monsters, chariots and characters. There are many small, mostly illogical but still worthwhile arguments to be made, such as maybe it never states clearly in any source you can't keep using them (perhaps they don't have access to any of the sources saying so, thats not your problem!), or maybe they're delusional.
If they don't relent, you can either find someone else to play, or you can concede defeat...saving your powers of arguing for...
Strategy Number 4: Rules-lawyering
Games don't have to be won purely through tactics and armies battling each other. They can also be won by manipulating the many fallacies or mis-wordings and ambiguous phrasings present in the rules. Maybe you find that typo on an enemy units army list stat-line compared to its full profile a little too convenient to believe its a real unit you should let your opponent use. Maybe you just moved your units a little too quickly, but it isn't your fault if your opponent is bad at measuring and thought you were in fact out of charge range, not in. Maybe you can wield your staff of darkoth with an enchanted sheild. Maybe you can use a unit of 5x2 trolls vomiting from both ranks like spears.
There are numerous small things that can turn things in your favor, rules to abuse, things to call your opponent out on (yes, siren song may not say ITP units are immune to it, and it may have been FAQed to affect them, but calling into question the validity of rules written by crack-addicted chimps is a golden argument). Also, remember,if your opponent eventually concedes in disgust, thats still a win... in fact its a massacre win! (it says so on page X line X of the rulebook).
I know what you're thinking now...ANY of these strategies would make everyone hate me! Well you're right to some degree.
Which is why there is a final, fail-safe strategy to ensure you will always have opponents willing to take all that crap, and allowing you to utilize rules 1-4 to win games. Opponents who are desperate for someone, anyone to play them and their horridly powerful, evil armies. Opponents who sit idly in the corner of a hobby shop looking on at their fellow hobbyists laughing and having a good time with wacky, stupid armies when there isn't a no-comp GT going on. People who don't have the moral high-ground and know it....
