TBO although I use 2x Baneblades & a Shadowsword in my Guard army I wouldn't have anymore Baneblades at 3000pts. However if you can get your opponent to come to you they do put out a lot of firepower.

Perhaps, but with 15cm move and SR 2, your opponent will decide to engage or not- never good in Epic.

The problem I always find with giving list advice (especially when you own the same list) is that you prod and cut a list until it's a clone of your own. That and people never get to 'cut their teeth' and find what works for them.

With all that said here's my input:

I agree with the advice already given.

-Infantry Companies are very static and fragile, but give cheap access to Support. I highly recommend putting a Hydra in Infantry Companies as it threatens enemy aircraft and gives the Inf Co a purpose- to garrison forward on the table in a good bit of cover and irritate aircraft trying to fly over.

-Lunar Class- Spacecraft are generally only worth it if troops can Planetfall onto the board from them. The Pinpoint (Shadowsword can 'pinpoint' every turn) and Bombardment (Artillery can hit where they like) aren't worth it on their own.
It's an activation that cannot claim objectives, or even be a delay activation in the turns it's not showing up.
But I'd try it out.

-I'd make the 3 Baneblade formation your BTS and give it the Hydra. It will be nigh indestructable from shooting, and a nightmare to engage and destroy (the Hydra making Air Assaults risky).

-I'd recommend splitting the other Company into Platoons- ideally Shadowswords.

Not greatly more than a Shadowsword (1.5 hits for a Baneblade vs 1 hit for a Shadowsword).

Factor that against the Shadowsword's generally superior performance in ranged shooting, and you can figure that 4.5 hits in a firefight rather than 3 (for a whole company) isn't really worth as much as the ability to reliably slag a Titan or cripple a tank company in a turn.

The NetEA Baneblade stats (Found in the Raiders and Siege books) make it an okay (But still not stellar) choice with an AP/generalist role, but if using the original book stats or the EUK stats I personally would steer clear of trying to build a list around 4/5 of them, and just take 1 or 2 at most.

-I'd make the 3 Baneblade formation your BTS and give it the Hydra. It will be nigh indestructable from shooting, and a nightmare to engage and destroy (the Hydra making Air Assaults risky).

If you do that, I'd suggest trying to use Sentinels to act as a screen around the Baneblades. Their scouts ability will help make it difficult for enemy CC or teleport units like Terminators to snatch an easy victory by engaging you on their terms.

Problem with Shadowsword in their is your trying to do two things with the formations- stay back and snipe Titans, rush forward and engage/blast away. If you insist on Baneblades, you might as well concentrate on them- Marching or Doubling forward early, taking up intimidating positions near the enemy objectives- especially since they're no longer the BTS.

I think it's a good idea to have a single shadowsword with the Baneblades, as it allows them to do something in almost all situations.

For e.g. if you're doubling forward to occupy a position, you've still got at least 1 x 3+ TK shot out to 90cm as well as the 2x 5+ shots for the battlecannons (To 75 cms). Even with all the short range firepower that BBs can dish out, it is nice to know that you WILL kill something with the volcano cannon, which can often mean the difference between breaking a fm and winning the game and not, at short or long range.

Baneblades are ok, despite the disparagement on this thread. They're quite intimidating and hard to shift and hold up well in an engagement. They're not the quickest, so you will likely find yourself doubling into position in the first turn or two and then sitting menacingly on an objective daring people to come at you. You then have the option of sitting on overwatch, long range sniping with the battlecannons and the Volcano cannon of the shadowsword or pummelling anything foolish enough to get in close with firepower.

I agree with keeping the Shadowsword in the company. About the only use I've ever managed to get out of EUK stat Baneblades is defensive, using their good FF rating as a threat to keep the enemy away. They're too slow to be used offensively, as by the time they arrive within range (30cm) they've had to Double, meaning they're hitting on 7's with most of their guns.

Putting a Shadowsword with them allows them to also get the occasional reliable offensive kill, instead of just acting as a mobile anchor point to swing the rest of your army around.

You only go from 4.5 FF hits down to 4 FF hits by taking a single shadowsword, so you barely lose any FF power in doing so.
