Hello one and all,
It is coming up to that time of the year again as we start looking towards issuing a rules pack and selling tickets for next March's UK40KGT. On it's innaugural flight last year the UK40KGT proved to be both hugely popular, more so than we ever anticipated, and a massive success with a great time been had by all who attended. This year we are looking to build upon that success and start to look to take the UK40KGT to the next level. It is for that very reason that we writing this to you all. As you are all no doubt aware the UK40KGT was organised by a committee of gamers drawn from across the gaming community and headed up by Neil Kerr (aka Skcuzzlebumm). Unfortunately, due to many and varied real life commitments the majority of the committee are going to be unable to continue in their capacity as organisers of the event. For example, in Neil's case he is entering the final year of his degree, and will also be travelling back and forth from Sweden on a regular basis. So it is with a heavy heart that the current committee are standing down from their positions, and Neil taking a step back from chairman.
However don't panic all is not lost!
The UK40KGT will still be going ahead on 24th & 25th March 2012, and it will be still be held at Maelstrom Games' Eye of the Storm in Mansfield.
But who is going to run it?
After much discussion and deliberation amongst the committee and with various other gamers we have taken the decision to hand control of the UK40KGT over to Dave Symcox, Nathan Roberts, Gary Percival and BJ Mason, collectively they are the chaps who produce and or are regularly involved with the 40KUK podcast. We decided to hand the organisation over to them for a number of reasons;
1. That they are all well seasoned and experienced tournament gamers and so know what makes up a great event.
2. That they are all permanently based in the Nottingham area and therefore logistically are well placed to continue to run the UK40KGT at Maelstrom Games.
3. Both Dave and BJ come from an events background and as a result are aware of how to plan and organise, as well as just how much work they need to commit to improve upon last years success.
4. The 40KUK podcast will then be ideally placed as a tool to promote the event even further and run all manner of exciting build up segments in the run up to March next year.
All this means that the UK40KGT will be in the perfect hands to both keep running and expand it's status as 'THE TOURNAMENT OF THE YEAR', and eventually seek to realise the original mission statement to run regional events up and down the UK and even in Ireland. The guys are fully committed that this is going to be an evolution, not a revolution, with things remaining the same as last year and only minor tweaks being made in accordance with feedback received from you, the gamers. In addition, we will remain in the background in advisory roles for the first year, assisting the guys if and when they need it - though in all honesty after seeing their planning matrix we doubt we are going to be needed.
At the end of the day this is and will remain the tournament for gamers, by gamers.
Tickets for next years event will be on sale Saturday 1st October and details regarding that and the rules pack for next years event will be issued over the next couple of weeks via email and the usual forums, and will also be available at Sorry. Salutations from 40kuk!
As you have now heard the UKGT torch has been handed over to us here at 40kuk, Hurah!!! We are both honoured and overjoyed to be involved with the evolution of this prestigious tournament.
The UKGT was arguably one of the most professional and well run tournaments in this year’s calendar and we aim to keep that high standard and continue making this a great tournament; for the most part a lot of the same faces will be there helping us in the back ground, so little will change in that respect.
What will change, and what we are very excited about, is the build up to the 40KUKGT will be much more interactive and there will be regular spots on our podcast about the tournament in the coming months. We hope that with the 40kUKGT’S main public face being on our Website here: Sorry. You have to be registered to access this content. it will provide a central site for anyone to contact us regarding the GT, with ideas, queries and all those little things you need to ask before an event. This will also be supported as usual with regular updates on many of the communities favourite forum sites such as Warhammer Forum, Warseer etc as well as our face book page. For all those as excited as we are, the rules pack is currently having the final finishing touches added to it and will be available to download from the 01/10/2011, with the actual tickets going on sale on the same day. The face book events page will follow soon after. We believe we can make the 40kUKGT even better this year with all the hard work Neil and the guys have put in to establishing this tournament before us (and still will be if we have any say in it!!)
